Male and Female
So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.
Genesis 1:27 (CSB)
Never in the history of the world have we been so confused about the number of genders that exist. On a recent form, I was asked to identify my gender preference (there's much to unpack in that statement, but we won’t address it at this time). This question offered a series of options to choose from that included: male, female, nonbinary, gender neutral, etc. Yet, what the world has confused and distorted, the Bible clarifies concerning humanity. There are two genders created by God: male and female.
GOD IS THE CREATOR OF GENDER
Scripture reveals that God created two genders. The creation of male and female occurred under the Lord's authority, plan, and design. God fashioned the two genders with a strategic intention that would fulfill His calling of marriage and populating the earth. We must acknowledge that God has made each individual as male or female according to His purpose. What God has created is neither confused nor incorrect. Humanity does not possess the authority or the right to reject how God has created us to be.
GOD CREATED EQUAL VALUE AND WORTH WITHIN GENDER
God created both male and female with equal value and worth. No gender is more significant than the other. Each holds dignity and worth as creations in the image of God. God formed male and female with differing roles within creation and called each of them to various tasks, but He has given each of them equality. The issue arises when we equate equality with the right to pursue any task we desire. Yet, God established equality within the framework of the created order and the tasks He assigned to each gender.
GOD CREATED GENDER WITH ORDER AND TOGETHERNESS
Humanity received the call to unite in marriage and fulfill the task of multiplying on the earth. God created male and female as companions who become one and work in harmony together. Each gender plays a specific role, and the combination of these roles enables God’s design to be realized. Within the created order, we must acknowledge how God established the family unit through the creation of two genders, who come together in marriage to carry out the task of filling the earth.
