Engage the Word Daily

The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Acts 17:11(CSB)

In Acts 17, Luke notes that the people of Thessalonica examined the Scriptures daily. This fact about the early believers in Thessalonica serves as an example for how today’s believers should eagerly examine the Scriptures each day.

Engaging with God’s Word should occur with eagerness. The Thessalonians sought the Lord with enthusiasm. Eagerness indicates that the Christians in Thessalonica had a profound desire to listen to and study the Word of God. This signifies that studying was a priority in their lives, and they longed to know the Lord more intimately during this time of engagement. The enthusiastic study of the Word reflects a deep desire to know the truth, live in the truth, and stand for the truth.

Engaging with God’s Word must be intentional. Luke noted that the Thessalonians studied Scripture by examining it. Their eagerness fostered a desire for deeper study. Deep engagement with God’s Word occurs when we intentionally handle it. We approach Scripture with a prepared, receptive, and humble heart. We come to the Word wanting to taste and experience its goodness, which cultivates a deeper desire to explore the Scriptures further.

The engagement with God’s Word must occur constantly. The believers in Thessalonica studied the Word daily, integrating it into their life rhythm. They continually sought the Word to understand how it would guide them through various moments in life. This constant engagement revealed their genuine love for the Word and their desire to live faithfully before the Lord. We must likewise seek to incorporate the study of God’s Word into the rhythm of our lives. We should strive to consistently engage with the Word and allow it to impact our lives.
