God is All-Knowing and All-Powerful
Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; You understand my thoughts from far away. You observe my travels and my rest; You are aware of all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, You know all about it, Lord.
Psalm 139:1-4 (CSB)
When describing the Lord's nature, we often use the terms omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. The prefix “omni” means all. In discussing the Lord, this term is used as part of compound words to indicate the “all” characteristics of God. The “omni” attributes of the Lord enhance our understanding of God as Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler.
OMNISCIENT
The term "omniscient" refers to knowing everything. We use terms like "all-knowing" to convey this quality. God knows all things (1 John 3:20). He has numbered our hairs and understands the intimate details of even the sparrows (Matthew 10:29-30). God’s all-knowing nature encompasses awareness of our thoughts and intentions (Psalm 139:4). He knows the past, present, and future.
OMNIPOTENT
The term omnipotent means all-powerful. The Lord's power is not limited; it is infinite. God’s power occurs as He works within history to rise up and put down leaders. We find the presence of His omnipotence as He works in the lives of His children to preserve them. There is nothing too great or powerful for the Lord. He is stronger and more powerful than all. We see His power displayed throughout Scripture when He works through miracles, events, and wanders.
OMNIPRESENT
The term "omnipresent" means that the Lord is always present. This is a challenging concept for us to grasp because we cannot be in two places at once. However, what is impossible for man is possible for God. He is ever present. He was with us on our journey. He is with us on our journey. He is ahead of us on our journey. We must find encouragement in knowing that the Lord is with us no matter where we are, because He is ever present.
