God is the Author of All Scripture

Moses came and told the people all the commands of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people responded with a single voice, “We will do everything the Lord has commanded.” And Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. He rose early the next morning and set up an altar and twelve pillars for the tribes of Israel at the base of the mountain. - Exodus 24:3-5 (CSB)

The Lord is the author of Scripture. This statement may appear challenging to grasp when we consider individuals like the apostle Paul received the acknowledgment as penning certain portions of Scripture. Yet, this statement is entirely true and without error when we consider the reality of how Scripture was transmitted and recorded. In Exodus 24:4-5, we find that Moses received the message from the Lord and recorded it in obedience to the command and calling of the Lord.

Scripture is the Creator’s communication with creation to inform the creation of the Creator’s message. The message spoken and penned by Moses in Exodus 24 is not the formation of his thoughts or opinions. The human author of Scripture is merely the mediator that reports the message of the one true Author. The message flows straight from the Lord and is recorded to relay the message to others. The Lord authored Scripture by divinely inspiring human authors to pen the message of the Lord. In Exodus 24, Moses’ words are divinely inspired because they are the Creator’s words to creation that were communicated to influence creation.

When you listen to voices of influence in the world today, who holds the most influence? Do people you know have a more impactful voice in your life? When I need advice, I turn to people I know and trust, and I believe that these individuals know who I am. Such people influence advising because of our relationship. Likewise, our relationship with the Lord impacts our understanding and commitment to the Word of God.A relationship with the Lord charges us to understand Scripture as His Word and His communication with us. Our relationship with the Lord impacts our understanding of the timeless nature of the Word and our view of its true and trustworthy nature. Our relationship with the Lord means that we have a relationship with the Author and, as a result, seek to live out what the Author has given. The world that rejects the Lord seeks to minimize the truths of God’s Word because they lack a relationship and knowledge with the Author. Thus, as followers of Jesus Christ, we must find Scripture as absolute truth and completely trustworthy because we personally know the Author, God.
