Scripture Reveals Christ
Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation about Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept silent for long ages but now revealed and made known through the prophetic Scriptures, according to the command of the eternal God to advance the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles—
Romans 16:25-26 (CSB)
Scripture reveals Christ. The Scripture serves as the testimony concerning Christ. As the testimony, Scripture testifies to the truth about Christ, the truth of Christ's work, and the truth concerning the offering of the gospel. Scripture reveals Christ from beginning to end as part of creation, the agent of redemption, and the returning King. Scripture declares these truths to the world and reveals these truths from the Lord.
Scripture proclaims Christ. The apostle Paul, writing to Rome, notes that Scripture exists as the proclamation of Christ. The declaration of Christ extends the good news that offers salvation. Scripture provides the bad news of the coming judgment of the sinful state but counters that horrific news with the gospel's good news through Christ. Thus, Scripture proclaims Christ as the one true Redeemer.
Scripture makes Christ known. We often take for granted the knowledge of Christ. We live under the influence of a Christian culture and often a post-Christian culture that assumes many truths about Christ. Yet, many people worldwide and throughout history have not known Christ. Thus, Scripture becomes the instrument of introducing people to Christ and the truth of the Lord. We find people throughout the generations who have engaged in Scripture to hear about Jesus and receive the revelation of Christ through the engagement of Scripture.
Scripture reveals Christ as part of God’s plan of Redemption. Paul affirms that Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy. This declaration of Paul reveals that Scripture speaks to Christ as the coming Messiah that would form the way to eternal life. He would become the needed sacrificial Lamb and offer eternal life to those who would believe in Him. Scripture supports itself as it reveals God’s plan in the prophets and fulfills the plan in the work of Christ.
Scripture affirms to us the truth concerning Christ. The mentioning of the coming Messiah in the prophets and sharing Christ’s life and work in the Gospels reveals the truth concerning Jesus. When we consider this truth, we must find encouragement in the Word of God and hold the truths concerning the Scripture more firmly.
