The Inseparable Love of the Father

Read the Text: Romans 8

Memorize the Text:

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(Romans 6:23, CSB)

Consider the Text: Romans 8:31-38

Fathers will give of themselves for their children to have success. Some fathers work multiple jobs for their children to attend a particular school, participate in a specific activity, or participate in a hobby they love. The extra work does not bother the father because they willfully do anything for their family. The reality is that the Heavenly Father’s love is even more significant than any earthly father’s love and ultimately is inseparable. The apostle Paul detailed this love of the Heavenly Father in Romans 8:31-39.

Paul addressed the EXPENSE of the Father’s love. The Lord paid the ultimate price to offer us the gift of salvation. However, his desire for reconciliation meant a sacrifice must occur. Jesus, God’s only Son, was the sacrifice provided, who went to the cross and paid the debt of sin we deserved in death. This act occurred because of God’s great love for us and the promise he made to us. The concept comes as Paul declares with clarity that when the Lord is for us, then who could be against us. Thus, God demonstrated this by providing Christ with the needed sacrifice.

The apostle detailed the EXCUSING nature of the Father’s love. God’s love not only paid the price but existed to excuse us from the death we deserved through a relationship with Christ. The eternal conviction we deserve due to our sin becomes erased, and we do not receive the condemnation we deserve. In Christ, we do not pay the deserved condemnation because of the payment of Christ on the cross, the victory of Christ in the resurrection, the position of Christ at the Father's right hand, and the activity of Christ in interceding on our behalf. Thus, the love of God provides an avenue for the sin punishment we deserve to be excused.

The apostle Paul told of the EXERTION of the Father’s love. The love of the Father formed a way where no power or threat could separate us from the Lord. The apostle especially noted that no oppression, anguish, persecution, famine, nakedness, harm, or even death could divide us. We are held together because of the work of the Lord and not by any of our strength. At the same time, we receive the guarantee of victory over suffering. As conquerors, we are victorious beyond measure and will not be overtaken because the success received is guaranteed due to Christ.

Paul noted the ENDLESSNESS of the Father’s love. God’s love is so powerful that no event, force, or individual can ever overcome God’s love for his child. The power exists as endless because it can never be severed. His love for us is unconditional, steadfast, and constant. God’s love is unending and becomes manifest in Christ ultimately. God’s love exists as eternal because God is eternal, and God is love. As a result, the love of God is eternal and everlasting.

The love of the Heavenly Father is a perfect, inseparable love for his children. He desires a relationship with each person and offers this relationship through faith in Jesus Christ. As you consider this love, may you evaluate your life and make sure you are living in the Father’s inseparable love. If you have entered this relationship, live in the truth that the Lord loves you entirely and will never stop loving you. If you do not have a relationship with Jesus, know that the Father desires to have one with you and offers you the reality of his inseparable love.
