Consider the Text: Colossians 2:6-7
Believers receive a call to live according to the will, ways, and word of the Lord. This journey encompasses a lifetime and faces several peaks and valleys. A critical component of a proper walk with Jesus occurs when we take note of the essential aspects of our trek. In Colossians 2:6-7, the apostle Paul calls us to develop a proper walk with Jesus and mentions several components that exist in a proper walk.
THE CALL A PROPER WALK WITH JESUS
Paul called the church to remember the moment they received Jesus. As the believers considered this event, the apostle pointed them to recall how they accepted Jesus. He charged them to walk with Jesus in the same manner they received Jesus. This charge indicates that the believers needed to walk with excitement, hope, and gratefulness because of the life received in Christ. The same exists today. We need to pursue walking with Jesus in the same manner that we received him. How is your walk with Jesus today? Does it contain the same excitement, hope, and gratefulness as the moment you first believed?
WALK FIRMLY PLANTED
The apostle noted that each believer needed to walk firmly planted in Christ. The idea comes from Paul’s challenge of being rooted in Christ. When a believer lives rooted in Christ, they live in a manner that demonstrates the solid foundation from the Lord alone. The wind of the world may blow against you, but the roots grounded in Christ do not move. Thus, Jesus becomes the needed anchor because he is the true place to root life. What are you trusting in your life to give you stability? Are you rooted in Christ as the solid anchor for your life?
WALK BUILT UP IN CHRIST
The apostle Paul knew believers needed to find their purpose and identity in Christ. This meant that each believer needed to allow the Lord to construct their lives in a manner that mirrors the ways, will, and word of the Lord. When believers become built up in Christ, they allow the Lord to be the bricklayer in life. Where do you find your purpose and identity? What are you authorizing to construct your life?
WALK ESTABLISHED IN THE FAITH
Paul called believers to walk established in the faith. Paul’s challenge did not call them to walk in faith but charged them to walk in “the” faith. Paul knew that the only faith that allowed one to have redemption and purpose was in Christ. Thus, Paul told them to establish their lives in the person of Christ and their relationship with him. Therefore, their life became defined by Christ. The same is true today. We need to strive to establish our life in the faith. If you analyzed your life today, would it mirror being established in the faith?
