WHO IS THE KING OF GLORY?
Daily Old Testament Reading: Psalm 24, 47, 68, 89
Daily Focus Passage: Psalm 24
Who is the King of Glory? This question demands an answer in our lives. This question attempts to force us to declare who we serve. It centers on what we glorify and honor in our lives. When the Psalmist asks who is the King of Glory, he forces us to dive deeper into our understanding and declaration of the Lord.
THE LORD IS THE KING OF GLORY BECAUSE THE EARTH BELONGS TO HIM
The Lord is the King of Glory because he is the true Creator of all things. He alone is the agent that brought forth all created things. He created with purpose and order. As Creator, he brought all things into existence and can sustain all things. As Sustainer, the Lord maintains his created order and oversees all that occurs. He watches with passion and cares over his creation and engages with it. Thus, he is the King of Glory.
THE LORD IS THE KING OF GLORY BECAUSE HE IS SOVEREIGN
The Lord is the King of Glory because of his sovereignty. The sovereignty of God means that he alone is over all things. As a result, we must live under his sovereignty and reflect on our understanding that he is the King of Glory. Thus, we must carry out activities with clean hands and a pure heart. At the same time, we must refuse to accept falsehood and instead stand for truth.
When we recognize the Lord as the true King of Glory, we seek the Lord's ways and will. We live trusting him because he is sovereign, Creator, and worthy. We bow before his greatness and seek to honor him in our lives. Thus, because he is the King of Glory, we place our lives before him and submit to him because of our faith and trust in him.
THE LORD IS THE KING OF GLORY BECAUSE HE CARES FOR US
The Lord is the King of Glory because he cares for his own. He engages in the lives of his children and provides them with the needed strength and might to navigate life. We recognize and praise God’s glory because of his goodness to us. He loves and cares for his children because he is the perfect, loving Father. The care the Lord extends to us opens the opportunity for us to respond to his glory.
The Lord alone is the King of Glory. He alone is worthy of praise because of his glory. We must seek to know and follow him because he is the King of Glory. We must strive to live before him in purity and trust him to empower us for the task ahead. When you consider your life, do you live in response to the King of Glory?
