Let the Lord Lead

Daily Old Testament Reading: Psalm 138-139, 143-144

Daily Focus Passage: Psalm 139

We see to live with a purpose. Often, we attempt to participate in activities that give us a sense of identity. We allow individuals, movements, and things to lead us if we feel like they respect us or see us as important and with great value. When we fall prey to these world influences, we miss the leading of the Lord in our lives. The reality comes that the Lord provides true identity and purpose in our lives because he knows us better than we even know ourselves. In Psalm 139, the Lord seeks to lead us because of his genuine love for us as Creator. Here are five truths David provides concerning allowing the Lord to lead us in life.

LET THE LORD LEAD BECAUSE HE KNOWS ALL

The Lord is all-knowing. He knows everything. He is fully aware of our locations, thoughts, and words. Since the Lord is all-knowing, he holds perfect insight and ability to deal with any dynamics. The all-knowing nature of the Lord should provide us with hope and peace. He knows our situations better than we do and knows how to use those dynamics in our life for his purpose and his glory. Thus, we must allow the Lord to lead us because he knows all.

LET THE LORD LEAD BECAUSE HE NEVER ABANDONS

The Lord promises to remain ever-present in our lives. No valley is too low or darkness too dark that the Lord abandons us. He stays with us as the needed strength and presence in the loneliness and weakest times. Since the Lord is a Promise-Keeping God, we know he walks with us through every moment of life. Thus, we must lean into the leadership of the Lord and allow him to navigate our lives through the valleys and the darkness.

LET THE LORD LEAD BECAUSE HE CREATED YOU

The Lord created you. He pieced you together with love and care. He made you in a unique manner that exists to carry out his will for his glory. He provides you with a purpose and creates you to fulfill that purpose. When we recognize the careful crafting of the Lord as our Creator, we become pushed to see that we must trust him completely. He cares deeply for us as his creation. Thus, we must allow the Lord to lead us as our Creator and follow him in obedience as his creation.

LET THE LORD LEAD BECAUSE HE IS THE VICTOR

The Lord is the ultimate Victor. He has already won the battle and the war. He will never be defeated, and he has already conquered and overcome the enemy that comes against us. As Victor, the Lord offers the prize of victory to his children even though they have done nothing to deserve the victory. Thus, as a child of God, we must trust his leadership because he has already won the battle and the war and offered us victory.

LET THE LORD LEAD

The Lord alone deserves to lead our lives. Unfortunately, we live battling against the influence of the fallen flesh and the world. Thus, we find ourselves often being led astray by fleshly influences instead of following the Lord. We must allow the Lord to guide our lives and lead us. We must repent of the influences that lead us astray. We must refocus our lives to dwell under the leadership of the Lord. We must allow the Lord to lead every step of our path as he guides us to the everlasting dwelling place in his presence. May we strive and fight to allow the Lord to lead our lives.
