Moments of Recommitment
Daily Old Testament Reading: Joshua 5-8
Daily Focus Passage: Joshua 8
Moments of recommitment should exist in the believer's life. Various events and moments challenge our faith, and at the end of the event, a time of recommitment is critical. In Joshua 8, the people have just successfully conquered Ai and now prepare for the next portion of the conquest. Coming to this moment, the people have conquered Jericho, lost to Ai, and defeated Ai. Now Joshua takes a moment and makes a recommitment to the Lord for the task ahead.
RECOMMITMENT REFOCUSES OUR MISSION
When life seems good, a temptation exists to lose the mission's focus. This lack of focus occurs as we forget the passion that drove us and become blinded to the task before us. As a result, we begin to rest in past successes and fail to press forward as we once did. As a result, we must identify this condition and recommit our lives to serving the Lord. This recommitment includes refocusing our mission back to the mission placed before us by the Lord.
RECOMMITMENT CENTERS OUR CELEBRATION ON THE LORD
Recommitment includes a focused celebration centered on the Lord. Such a commitment indicates that we battle against the temptation to celebrate the successes in our life and instead strive to give God all the glory. A time of recommitment allows us to celebrate the Lord by recognizing his past work, present work, and promised work in our lives. When seeking to celebrate the Lord, we commit to reflecting Jesus in all we do.
RECOMMITMENT BRINGS A RENEWED PASSION
Apathy steals our passion. When apathy sets in, we tend to become lackadaisical and appear to have lost the passion needed to pursue the leading of the Lord. Apathy creates a dynamic where we may feel okay about our position with the Lord but not have a burning zeal to serve him. When we recommit to the Lord, we seek for the spiritual fire of our lives to become ignited. We seek to burn with passion for the Lord and serve him in faith. Thus, recommitment is a return to the burning desire of our first love.
RECOMMITMENT MARKS A MOMENT OF MEMORY
A time of recommitment marks a moment in history to remember. The moment may mark a time of victory in the Lord or a time of commitment to the Lord. The moment sets as a place to reflect upon and remember the faithfulness of the Lord. When we recommit to the Lord, we place a marker in our lives of setting a course to pursue the Lord. This marker sets a place to journey from and return to when rekindling is needed.
How is your commitment to the Lord? Have you grown weary or apathetic? Do you need to come to a moment of recommitment? Take time to set your mission upon the Lord. Seek to celebrate the Lord in your life. Desire to be spiritually ignited by the Lord and create the marker of remembrance in your life.
